Activities & Milestones

The mission of HIV Outcomes in Spain is to improve the health-related quality of life of people living with HIV in Spain; while simultaneously enhancing the sustainability of the Spanish health system. In order to achieve this goal, HIV Outcomes has developed an outreach work plan that aims at disseminating HIV Outcomes-related information in Spain and holding several virtual meetings with stakeholders and regional authorities from Catalonia, Basque Country, Madrid, Aragon, Valencia, Andalusia and Galicia, to present the HIV Outcomes recommendations and address what needs to be done to implement them at regional level.

2023
  • June 2023

    The Spanish HIV Outcomes Secretariat launched a study on comorbidities surveillance in individuals living with HIV. The initiative aims to collect qualitative data from seven regions, with the support of relevant regional HIV coordinators, in order to develop recommendations for improving comorbidities monitoring and collecting population-level data on quality of life.

  • May 2023

    On May 17, the HIV Outcomes Roundtable on HIV stigma and discrimination took place within the broader SEISIDA’s scientific meeting Hacer VIHsible lo invisible. In total, more than 200 people attended the roundtable, including high-level national and regional levels stakeholders, and during which HIV Outcomes presented its paper on good practices and policy recommendations to fight HIV-related stigma and discrimination.   • April 2023

    The HIV Outcomes Spanish Secretariat developed and published a short video to disseminate HIV Outcomes policy recommendations. The video (in Spanish) is accessible here and on SEISIDA’s social media platforms.

2022
  • November 2022

    The HIV Outcomes high-level event for World AIDS Day 2022 at the European Parliament was disseminated through the website of SEISIDA in Spanish. The Policy Asks were translated into Spanish and sent out on 1st December to media and associates and included in SEISIDA website, as well as a press release to support the dissemination of the Policy Asks.

  • October 2022

    The HIV Outcomes roundtable at SEISIDA’s XX National Congress of AIDS and STIs was held in Bilbao on 24 October.

  • May 2022

    Two meetings were organised on the topic of comorbidities and discrimination and were attended by policymakers, academics, experts and patient representatives. The results of the 2021 thematic meetings were discussed and new next steps were agreed.

  • November 2021

    A meeting was organised with stakeholders and authorities from the Region of Aragon. Dr. María José Fuser (SEISIDA) and Dr. Jeffrey Lazarus (ISGlobal and HIV Outcomes Co-Chair) led the debate and several regional HIV experts took part in the round-table discussion.

  • October 2021

    The SEISIDA’s virtual congress was held on 4-6 October 2021 and speakers discussed the status of the fight against HIV in Spain. The HIV Outcomes Recommendations were road-tested in view of their implementation in Spain.

  • September 2021

    A meeting was organised with stakeholders and authorities from the Region of Valencia. Dr. María José Fuster (SEISIDA) and Dr. Jeffrey Lazarus (ISGlobal and HIV Outcomes Co-Chair) led the debate and several regional HIV experts took part in the round-table discussion.

  • June 2021

    Two meetings were organised in the Basque Country (14 June) and Madrid (30 June) to discuss the long-term care of people living with HIV and the impact of comorbidities, stigma and discrimination on their health-related quality of life. Dr. María José Fuser (SEISIDA) and Jeffrey Lazarus (ISGlobal and HIV Outcomes Co-Chair) led the debate, which was joined by several regional HIV experts.

  • May 2021

    The first virtual meeting was held on 17 May in Catalonia, in order to discuss the long-term care of people living with HIV and the impact of comorbidities, stigma and discrimination on their health-related quality of life. Dr. María José Fuser (SEISIDA) and Dr. Jeffrey Lazarus (ISGlobal and HIV Outcomes Co-Chair) led the debate, which was joined by several regional HIV experts.

  • December 2020

    The HIV Outcomes recommendations for Spain were projected at the City of Arts and Sciences (Valencia) on World AIDS day (1st December).

  • November 2020

    The report ‘road-testing’ the HIV Outcomes recommendations on the long-term health, well-being and chronic care of people living with HIV in Spain in 2020 was published. The report relies on evidence from technical documents and scientific articles and includes the findings of HIV experts, policymakers, academics, physicians and civil society activists.
