Beyond ‘surviving’ with HIV: living proof of why the paradigm must change

At the meeting of the HIV Outcomes initiative on 1 June, Mario Cascio (EATG member and Steering Committee member of ‘Ageing with HIV’), gave a personal account of what it means to age with HIV. Significantly, he noted that the greatest discrimination he has faced has been within the context of the health system itself, for example when he was advised not to have children. Mario’s son is now an adult, and he describes being a father as the best experience of his life. Following the meeting, Professor Jeffrey Lazarus (HIV Outcomes co-chair) spoke with Mario to hear more about his experiences and why our collective way of thinking about HIV needs to change. “Beyond ‘surviving’ with HIV: living proof of why the paradigm must change” can be accessed here.
